That Which My Heart Longs For

I don't know when we'll meet
I just know it will be bittersweet.
To see you standing in the carnations
smiling up at me.
A joyful smiling face
with vibrant deep brown eyes
the color of maple wood.
You make me happy
the happiest I'd
ever be on earth.
Music picks up and I hear
a melody of heart beats.
Your heart beats in rhythm with mine.

Do you know me, who your heart longs for?
Sometimes salt wets my pillow
because I long for something more.

My heart beats in rhythm with yours,
you breath in,
I breath out
You walk down the street
I walk down the road.
Throw bread for the geese,
I stay close to my abode.
During the holidays
we both watch
with grateful eyes
at or sisters
with their families.
We pray that someday,
we'll be that lucky.

You're the beautiful melody I hear in church
the glorious echo of the bells on the Sabbath.
You're as sweet as my 21st birthday cake,
with a decadent layer of rich buttercream
frosting.
Dulce frosting piped in candados,
candles too.
My well-travelled sisters light the flame and bring in the cake.
When will our flame start?

Now, I close my eyes and blow
the candles flicker and extinguish.
My wish floats up and evaporates
into the dimly lit room.

My tender heart falls easy,
so if you catch it,
don't let it shatter.
